Casa da Guitarra Traditional musical instrument store in Porto

Casa da Guitarra is a traditional musical instrument store, located in the historic center of the city of Porto. It was created with the aim of offering the city's musicians, and any music lover, a space for socializing and sharing, where they could repair their instruments and buy new ones.

Since 2012, Casa da Guitarra has expanded its offerings to the city, now hosting traditional fado concerts, which now take place daily.

In addition, Casa da Guitarra has its own string instrument workshop , where repairs and restorations of instruments with a long history are also carried out. This workshop belongs to guitarist and founder Alfredo Teixeira, a musician who also participates in fado concerts, playing the Portuguese guitar.

Within its space, Casa da Guitarra presents a permanent exhibition entitled Journey Through the Chordophones. This exhibition traces the history of traditional Portuguese stringed instruments, from their origins to their spread throughout the country and their evolution. Journey Through the Chordophones also tells the story of Porto's past, full of old luthier workshops, exhibiting some of their recordings and works.

Recently, Casa da Guitarra opened a new Fado experience, Fado Vitória, at the Monastery of São Bento da Vitória. This experience offers a guided tour of this monastery, which is one of the city's most important religious monuments, as well as a fado concert.

In this way, Casa da Guitarra dedicates itself daily to the Portuguese musical tradition, preserving its culture and history and sharing it with those who visit the city of Porto.
