The unconditional work of the famous Gustave Eiffel, the Pont D. Maria Pia Bridge was a work of unparalleled ingenuity at the time of its construction. Standing 61 metres above the river, it was used to carry the railway line linking Porto to the capital Lisbon for no less than 114 years. Trains stopped running in 1991, but the bridge remains a must-see in Porto, an incredible structure overlooking the River Douro.
