Casa da Arquitectura – Quarteirão da Real Vinícola
Casa da Arquitectura – Portuguese Centre for Architecture is the only Portuguese institution exclusively dedicated to Architecture.
Located in Matosinhos , next to the beach and close to the port of Leixões, Casa da Arquitectura is part of the renovated Quarteirão da Real Vinícola complex, occupying a total area of 5,000 square meters, which includes an exhibition room , the house gallery , the archive , the library , the house shop and adjacent services, in addition to hosting the famous Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra.
The Quarteirão da Real Vinícola (built between 1897 and 1901) was the site of the former factory of the Real Companhia Vinícola of the Menéres & Companhia company and is an example of the industrial heritage of Matosinhos. The renovation works (2017), designed by the architect Guilherme Machado Vaz, won the National Award for Urban Rehabilitation (Social Impact) in 2018.
Today, Casa da Arquitectura is an essential presence on the architectural circuit.
