    • The Wine Chapel in the Heart of Porto

Anyone entering this wine bar in the heart of Porto for the first time is unlikely to remain indifferent. There's something unexpected about this strange and fascinating coexistence of the profane and the sacred, suggested by both the architecture and the decor of the space. After all, the building that now hosts conversations, toasts, and gatherings was once a chapel, built in the 19th century on the initiative of the 1st Viscount of Vilarinho de São Romão.

It is true that the chapel has been deconsecrated and has not hosted religious rituals for over half a century. Even so, it retains a particular, almost solemn aura, which Francisca Lobão —the soul and guardian of this project—has interpreted with rare sensitivity. With the devotion of someone who deeply believes in what she does, she took advantage of the iconic elements that the building preserved and added others, chosen with intelligence and respect, accentuating its unique character. The result is an absolutely original wine bar that has become a landmark and has marked the city's cultural landscape.

But a wine bar isn't just about aesthetics. Here, the experience goes far beyond mere contemplation. The wine list brings together references from all Portuguese regions and invites you on a true sensory journey, whether at the table, sharing glasses and bottles, or in a more attentive tasting. To accompany the wines, there are typically Portuguese snacks, carefully prepared and of high quality, that elevate the offering far beyond the obvious.

This is also a meeting place and a place for cultural experience. On Thursdays, live Fado music fills the space with emotion; on Fridays, drawing is combined with wine, in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. Throughout the month and year, themed events also take place, reinforcing the spirit of community and attracting both the occasional visitor and the regular customer, who ends up adopting the space almost as a meeting place.

When the weather warms up, the Chapel expands beyond its walls and occupies the adjacent square. In the generous shade of the centuries-old plane tree that guards the entrance, a welcoming terrace emerges, perfect for long evenings and unhurried conversations — because there are places that demand time, and this is undoubtedly one of them.
