  The visit to BOA VISTA TERRACE in a Hotel Tivoli Kopke left a surprisingly negative impression, especially considering the strong reputation highlighted on the hotel’s website and the association with three Michelin star chef Nacho Manzano. The hotel is beautiful, the spa is fine, and the wine selection is genuinely excellent, but the restaurant does not live up to the expectations set by its name. The fusion menu feels confused. A dish labeled “niguiri” arrived as an oversalted sardine on an equally salty and acidic purée, which made the whole idea feel off. The croquettes were tasty, but their appearance was sloppy. The Grilled bacon brioche ras el hanout with mozzarella and mustard looked promising on paper, yet in reality felt like a very basic mini burger with little creativity behind it. There were still a couple of dishes that showed potential. The cauliflower with sardines had interesting flavors, although it was served in so much sauce it almost felt like a soup. The Pork Jowl and Prawn Nem was the highlight, simple and aromatic, and showed what the kitchen could achieve when it focused on clean, balanced flavors. The biggest surprise was seeing “Russian salad” on the menu. Leaving aside the unfortunate political associations, the name is inaccurate in general, since the dish was created by Lucien Olivier and is not originally Russian. Using the name Olivier or Olivie would have been a more thoughtful choice. Prices are reasonable, but price alone cannot fix the overall lack of direction. What made things worse was the reaction from the service staff. Instead of noting feedback, the response was essentially that “the dishes are good” and that the issue was in the interpretation. This kind of defensiveness feels out of place in a restaurant aiming for high standards. The restaurant, however, feels lost and far from the level one would expect from a chef of Manzano’s stature. So it is better not to arrive with high expectations, and perhaps consider another restaurant in the area if you are looking for a memorable dinner experience.

  Quite easily the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in! From the moment we stepped foot in we were made to feel like the most important quests, nothing was ever too much and the personal touches only added to the already amazing experience. Location wise, we loved the walk across to the main city each day, the spa was just perfection and the rooms, beautiful! Could not recommend Tivoli Kopke more, don’t look for any other hotels. Thank you so much for making our first trip to Porto so memorable.
